My methodology of working involves the deconstruction, manipulation, and reconstruction of imagery and material. While gradually fabricating these works, I allow for spontaneity and change to occur. This is realized through the process of cutting, editing, combining, and rearranging to produce an unpredicted yet intentional result.
Play is essential to my practice in dealing with the fictional narrative. Multiple layers of printmaking processes such as Mono-print, Screen-print, Chin-colle, and collage are combined to create humorous stories. Contrived scenarios set visual moods to stimulate memory, sensation and imagination. Illusionary and whimsical environments suggest abstracted landscapes where recognizable imagery is altered to form a false reality. Whether drawing from life or from book, I find character through the distortion of various mechanical components such as gadgets, bolts and levers. This development of character is derived from my childhood fascination to explore the structure and intricacy of machines. Through this transformation, an image is created that is unrecognizable, yet still imaginable. The complex interaction between character, imagery, form, texture, and mood create a playful narrative stimulating mental and physical sensations.
