My work is created as a result of direct dialogue with chefs giving me insight into what my end-user is looking for but cannot get from standard dinnerware.
"Paper Plates" were created in collaboration with Chef Howard Hanna of the Hotel Rieger Grill and Exchange in Kansas City, Missouri.
"Paper Plates" were made to resemble crumpled paper through an industrial making process called slip casting. This is done by creating a mold with negative space that liquid clay is poured into. Slip casting allows me to make porcelain look like almost anything which gives me a higher degree of variability in my forms.
Each design is stackable to save space in the kitchen and has a color-coded footprint to show which ones stack together. Perfect for dinner parties or simple modern home decor.

My work seeks to engage chefs and diners using the restaurant as art gallery to display the work in its proper context. My work is created as a result of direct dialogue with chefs. This conversation gives insight into what my end-user is looking for but cannot get from standard restaurant ware. Restaurant tableware has remained the same for decades and has yet to accommodate the uniquely sculptural aspects of the food presentation. My work serves to fill that void and allow chefs to prepare and present sculptural food on sculptural objects.

My interest in food service comes from growing up with parents who took me to restaurants as a child. I received a love and appreciation of cooking by my Mom and Grandmother who taught me how to cook at a young age. Restaurants have always been a source of wonder for me. Though my interactions with chefs I have gained better insight into restaurant service and an even deeper respect for the people that make restaurants happen on a daily basis.
